New feature! Throwback of the Day, where I’ll post some old random picture from the past and share a story about it.
My middle school/high school friend, Paula P. sent me this throwback via Facebook, awhile back. I was probably about 14 or 15 and not yet a diva.
Unique in military life, mine and Paula’s parents were stationed at two different bases at about the same time. We met while our parents were stationed on Sembach AFB and we became the best of friends, right away. I hung out at her house as often as I was allowed. Her friendship made my abusive home life more bearable.
She moved away first, but, we later met up, again, at Offutt AFB, where we picked up our friendship. And, once again, her home was a refuge for me.
My favorite time of year, at her house, was Christmas, because her mother would whip up several batches of divinity (whipped candies with chopped pecans) and Paula and I would sneak into the kitchen and swipe several pieces until we got caught and scolded. But, they were SO good, we could not help ourselves.
Good times. Good times.
