I could hear the wheels of the horse-drawn carriage
As the sound drowned out the white noise of the waterfall.
The roof of the porta-loo was caving in
A sign that some people didn’t appreciate it in the park.
I saw a curtain being drawn across the street
An attempt of the neighbors to keep the noise at bay.
Not far from the waterfall, I sat on a half-folded sheet
Watching all the life in this part of the city.
A group of kids were getting compass lessons from their father
A fun family outing they’ll remember fondly some day.
Somewhere behind me, I heard a group of girls
Sharing gossip on a park bench.
Not far from there was a gardener selling spinach
Among other home-grown goodies he had nurtured.
People-watching is my favorite staple of living in the city
It feeds my soul to see who my neighbors are.
